STROUD, Allen Bryant - Allen Bryant Stroud, father of H.L., John W. and A.B. Stroud of this city, died here Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Sadie Ashworth, corner of Elm and Fourth streets, where he and his daughter, Mrs. Dean, had been living for several months. He had been failing for years and his death was not unexpected by his family. Funeral services were held at the H.L. Stroud home on West Walnut at 5:30 Monday evening, the late hour being due to the fact that John W. Stroud, who was in Nashville, Ark., arrived on the train from the south at 5:00 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. J.E. Heins of the Christian church. Interment was made in the Rogers cemetery by the side of his wife who died February 26, 1903. Mr. Stroud was one of the early settlers of Northwest Arkansas. He was born in Milan, Tenn. January 12, 1831 and came to Washington Co., Ark. at an early age. He lived in the northwest part of the county. He was married December 7, 1854 to Mary Isabel Webb of Pea Ridge where he settled and engaged in the farming and mercantile business. When the Civil War broke out he moved his family to Rolla, Mo. but returned to Pea Ridge at the close of the war to again resume his business operations on a large and successful scale. For many years Mr. Stroud was an important factor in the financial growth of this part of the county and is well remembered by the older settlers of the community. Mr. Stroud was the father of eight children, one dying in infancy. Those living are H.L., John W., and A.B. Stroud of Rogers; U.G. Stroud of Winslow, Ark.; Mrs. A.J. Dean, Wills Point, Texas; Mrs. L.M. Dodson, Nevada, Mo.; Miss Ula Stroud, Los Angeles, Calif. He moved to Rogers soon after its incorporation and resided here until the death of his wife in 1903. Since then most of his time has been spent with his daughter, Mrs. Dodson, at Nevada, Mo.

STROUD, Mary I. WEBB - Mrs. A.B. Stroud died last Thursday morning at five o'clock at her home in this city, corner of Cherry and Fifth streets. Mrs. Stroud had been suffering for a year or two from a cancerous tumor and her life had been despaired of several times. A number of operations had been necessary. The last one was performed only a few weeks ago and it was thought she was improving but her vitality was very low and the end was not unexpected. She was conscious up to the very last and passed away as easily as though falling asleep. Funeral services were held at the residence Friday afternoon at two o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Thompson. Mary I. Webb was born in Tennessee June 22, 1832 and was therefore seventy years, eight months and four days old at the time of her death. She was married to A.B. Stroud at Pea Ridge, this county, where they resided until 1882 when they moved to Carl Junction, Mo. She came to Rogers with her husband in 1895. To them were born eight children, seven of whom are now living and are as follows: Mrs. A.J. Dean, Wills Point, Texas; Mrs. Lola Dodson, Nevada, Mo.; Mrs. Ula Miller, Oakland, Calif.; U.G. Stroud, San Antonio, Texas and H.L. Stroud, John W Stroud and Alonzo Stroud of Rogers. All of the children were present at the funeral with the exception of Mrs. Miller. Mrs. Stroud was a devoted, self sacrificing mother and her children, though now all in homes of their own, will miss her tender sympathy and her comforting Christian influences. She was a faithful member of the Christian church.
