STROUD, J. Everett - Rogers, Ark., Oct. 20.- J. Everett Stroud, 47 years old, son of J.W. Stroud, president of the Farmers State Bank, Rogers, and nephew of H.L. Stroud, capitalist of Kansas City, was found dead late Wednesday afternoon in a ravine just outside the city limits east of town, by a searching party of business men and Boy Scouts. A charge of both barrels of a 12 gauge shotgun had entered his right breast. He had been dead about 24 hours, according to County Coroner A.D. Callison of Rogers who said that death was probably caused by accident. Stroud started on a squirrel hunt Tuesday morning alone. When he did not return that night his mother became alarmed and search was started. Stroud was born here and was graduated at the University of Arkansas. He was associated with his father in the fruit and brokerage business. His wife, from whom he was divorced, and his 18-year-old daughter are in California. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Mrs. J.S. McLeod of Rogers and a brother, Wilson Stroud of Humboldt, Tenn. and another uncle, A.B. Stroud of this place.

J. Everett Stroud, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Stroud of this city, was killed some time Tuesday while hunting in the hills on the east edge of town. The body was found yesterday evening about 4 o'clock by Forrest Ward and Tim Wilson, members of a searching party that had been looking for Mr. Stroud since Tuesday night when the family became alarmed over his failure to return home. He left the house in the morning and they knew he did not expect to go far. The body was found near the foot of the hollow south of the Juhre barn. The gun, a double-barrel shotgun, No. 12, was some distance further up the hill side and Mr. Stroud had evidently stumbled or rolled down the slope. The load of shot struck him on the right side, just below the ribs, and ranged upward. Death must have been instantaneous, but marks of his movements had been washed away by the heavy rain that fell yesterday. Funeral arrangements cannot be announced this morning. His only brother, Wilson Stroud of Humboldt, Tenn. will arrive tonight and they are awaiting word from his only child, Miss Amelia Stroud of Beverly Hills, Calif. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Cora McLeod of this city. Mr. Stroud was 44 years old and was born at Carl Junction, Mo. but came to Rogers when just a child and Rogers has since been his home. He graduated from Rogers Academy in the Class of 1900 and is one of the best known residents of Rogers. He returned a week or so ago from Humboldt where he had gone with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Stroud and was planning to return there in a few days. He has been living with his parents for some time. His father, J.W. Stroud, is president of the Farmers State Bank of Rogers and was for many years secretary of the Ozark Fruit Growers Association, and Everett has at numerous times been associated with his father in various departments of the fruit business. He was also in the automobile and garage business here for several years. He was a nephew of A.B. Stroud of this city. The broken hearted parents and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community.
