Samuel D. Harris Dies at Oxford Monday

Samuel D. Harris, aged 79, highly respected citizen of Oxford died at his home at that place, Monday morning, following a brief illness. He had been in failing health for several months, but was stricken with his fatal illness Saturday morning.

Mr. Harris was born in Mary’s County, Missouri, and the early part of his life was spent there. He came to this section 49 years ago, first locating near Pineville and later Gorby. After several –years moving to Gorby, he moved to Oxford where he resided for the last 16 years. He married 47 years ago to Miss Mina Cooper of this vicinity, who survives him. Mr Harris was widely known throughout this part of the county and was numbered among the section’s best citizens. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Elsie Mason of Gorby; six sons, A. D. Harris, Calico Rock; Clay and Arthur Harris, Oxford, Lehman Harris, Cross Roads, Perry Harris Marked Tree, Ark., and Leonard Harris, Melbourne; several grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. W. C. Stewart of this place, were held at the Methodist church at Oxford, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. Burial was in the Oxford cemetery, with the Roller-Barber Funeral Service in charge.
