James A. Harris Former Sheriff Dies After Long Illness
Funeral services for James A Harris aged 62, who died at his home in Melbourne, Friday October 28, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Melbourne Church of Christ by Jack Wood Sears of Searcy. Mr. Harris had been in failing health for several months.
Deceased was born and reared at Melbourne. He was a former sheriff of Izard County, serving from 1933 to 1936. He was also a member of the State Police forces and played several seasons of semi-pro baseball. He was a member of the Melbourne school board, was a World War I Veteran and a Mason. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Viva Harris; one son, Charles Harris of Melbourne; one brother and one sister, Mrs. Clarence Landers of Brockwell.
Burial was in the Melbourne Cemetery.
