Jacob A. (Jake) Reed, 73, died July 4 in Bishop, Calif. Born Aug. 25, 1901, in Sapulpa, Indian Territory, Okla., he was the son of James I. and Orilla Hoover Reed, was a Baptist and served in the U.S. Army for several years, beginning in 1921.

Survivors include five sons, Clarence Reed, Kansas City, Kan., Wallace Reed, Winslow, Jake Reed, Joplin, Mo., James Reed, Carthage, Mo, and Everett Reed, Bishop, Calif.; one step-son, Robert Cohen, Carthage; five daughters, Mrs. Letha Capps and Mrs. Betty Friend, both of Kansas City, Kan., Ms. Bertha Reed, Battle Mountain, Nev., Mrs. Donna Jennings, Carthage and Mrs. Nola Mae Guteirrez, Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Adam Reed, Winslow and Joe Reed, Camarilla, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Albert Franklin and Mrs. Al Flowers, both of Moab, Utah, Mrs. Jackie Anderson, Bishop and Mrs. Hattie Henricks, Corona, Calif.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Moore's Chapel, with Rev. M.C. Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Parks Cemetery near Winslow under the direction of Moore's of Fayetteville.
