Samuel King Reed, a member of the notorious West Forkers.
An 1882 issue of the Police Gazette suggests that all was not calm and quiet in Fayetteville during the 1870s and early 1880s.In 1878 a portion of the Van Winkle Hotel and the Reed & Ferguson's Bank were set ablaze by night raiders. Samuel is reputed to have been one of the men who set fire to the Van Winkle Hotel.
