Funeral services for Pvt. Glenn c. Beavers, who died in a Japanese concentration camp in the Phillippine Islands, May 26, 1942, were held at the Norfork Cemetery, Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. D.W. Stark officiating. Military rites at the graveside were preformed by members of the American Legion and V.F.W. Posts of Norfork and Mt. Home. Arrangements were under the direction of the Roller-Barber Funeral Home.
Pvt. Beavers was born March 24, 1924, at Cartney. He entered the army at Kansas City, MO, in November of 1839, and asked for foreign service. He was sent to the Philippine Islands in the spring of 1939, and had completed his enlistment and was ready to return home when war was declared in December, 1941. He remained in that area where he was in combat and captured. In 1944, word was received by his family that he had died in a Japanese concentration camp as a result of lack of food and ill treatment at the hands of the Japanese.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lena Grisham and stepfather, Glenn Grisham of Norfork.
