Joe Ray Reed, 82, of Fayetteville, Ark., died Jan. 18, 2008, at his home in Fayetteville.

Born April 6, 1925, in Skylight, Ark., he was a son of Ambrose Ray and Stella Sallie Glidewell Reed. A deacon at Eastside Baptist Church in Fayetteville, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from the Naval Reserve with 32 years of service. He was a retired volunteer firefighter and a 32nd Degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, June Brown Reed of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Terry Reed and wife Angie of Wynne, Ark.; a daughter, Karen Garner of Colcord, Okla.; a brother, Curtis Reed of Lincoln, Ark.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were Jan. 21 at Eastside Baptist Church in Fayetteville, with Terry Reed and James Golf officiating. Burial followed at National Cemetery in Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 325 S. Crossover Road, Fayetteville, AR 72701. Arrangements were under the direction of Luginbuel Funeral Home of Prairie Grove.
