Vivian Lee Dryden Scott, 88, a.k.a ‘Ma Vivian,’ ‘Ma Viv,’ ‘Grammer,’ #18, blew out of Mercy Hospital and headed to the very best auction around -in heaven, Wednesday, June 27th, following an illness, and surrounded by her loving family. For many years, “Sold to number 18!” could be frequently heard at local auctions as one regular patron, Vivian Scott #18, happily purchased the latest additions to her collections.

Vivian Lee Dryden was born at home on June 7th, 1930, in Rogers, Arkansas, to Hugh and Maggie Dryden. She attended Sunnyside Elementary in her early years and eventually graduated from Rogers High School in 1948.

Her working career included being a telephone switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company during the 1950s. Later on, she worked as a cashier at Walmart #1 for a short time. During the 1980s she was a clerk in the Benton County Assessor’s Office and also worked for the Benton County Equalization Board.

A passion for collecting American antiques, glassware and other items began to emerge at some point. It was during this time that she began to work for Colonel Fred Hiett, Auctioner, his wife May, their son, Jerry Hiett and wife, Virgina. She enjoyed and respected this team of knowledgeable, hard-working people. Eventually, Vivian became quite an expert at identifying all kinds of glassware, china, and antiques!

Over the years she was a member of the Sub Debs, Church of Christ, a Rotary Ann, PTA President at Southside Elementary, a lifelong Republican, and an avid Fox News fan. (She recently told one daughter that she thought she might be in love with Shepard Smith!) She also enjoyed attending meetings of the Rogers Historical Society, being a native and hometown girl who knew quite a bit about Rogers’ past!

If you ever tasted award-winning chicken and dumplings, then you had to have been dining on Vivian’s scrumptious recipe for this, which always appeared at family get-togethers. Her one-of-a-kind chocolate sheet cake was a much requested dessert year after year, too! Also, Vivian’s savory salmon patties made many meal times something to look forward to growing up at the Scott household. However, a certain hot tuna casserole which kept reappearing at the dinner table over the years still causes a gag reflex at just the mention of it!

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Darrell Beck Scott, and a grandson, Josh Harp. Those who love her and will miss her include her children: Linda Haney (Randy) of Springdale, Darrell Scott (Leeann) of Rogers, Becke Strasters (Steve) of Rogers; her grandchildren: Hunter Haney (Kaylene), Madison and Carson Scott, Beck and Rex Strasters, Chris Haney and Zachary Strasters; one great-granddaughter, Harper Rose Haney and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Monday, July 2nd, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers.

Funeral services will be on held on Tuesday, July 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Chapel with Minister Jackie Chesnutt officiating. Burial will be at Hart Cemetery in Bentonville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C Diff Foundation at https://cdifffoundation.org/donate
