FAYETTEVILLE — Jessa Dean DeFoliart Scott, 89, passed away peacefully with her sons by her side on Feb. 11, 2016, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born on Jan. 15, 1927, in Stillwater, Okla., the daughter of Jess H. DeFoliart and Ruby M. King.
She graduated Rogers High School in 1944. Jessa Dean attended the University of Arkansas where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member. She also attended Oklahoma A & M. While at A & M, she was a colonizing member of the Delta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma.
She was married in Parsons, Kan., in 1947. She lived in Odessa, Texas, and Nashville, Tenn., where she was a homemaker. In 1964, Jessa worked as a secretary for Vanderbilt University's Divinity School.
In 1965, after moving back to Rogers, Ark., she was employed as a secretary for the Rogers High School and later with the Rogers School Supply office. She retired in 1989 after a 24-year career with the school system.
Jessa was proceeded in death by her mother Ruby King and father Jess DeFoliart of Rogers, Ark.; and
her brother Gene DeFoliart of Madison, Wis.
She is survived by her sons, Kimber DeFoliart Paul Scott of Fayetteville, Ark., Timothy Vance Scott of Devil's Den State Park; two nieces, Sharon DeFoliart of Falmouth, Maine and Linda DeFoliart of Fairbanks, Alaska; and a nephew, David DeFoliart of Burke, Va. Other relatives include Dave Foliart of Van Buren, Ark., plus great nieces and a great nephew.
She was a loving mother and a kind person with a wonderful sense of humor who enjoyed family, reading, Arkansas sports, Broadway plays, and sunshine. She was charitable in her gifts to different organizations and clubs, especially in her donation to the Northwest Arkansas Mountain Bike Championships. A devout Episcopalian, Jessa Dean was proud to be from Arkansas and the South. She will be missed.
The family would like to thank Katherine's Place and Circle of Life Hospice, especially the nurses and CNAs, for their care and kindness.
Her visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, from 5 until 7 p.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Rogers on Feb. 25, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Benton County Memorial Park.
