O.F. Anderson, one of the oldest citizens of Pea Ridge, died at his home there last Thursday night. He had been ill for some time and suffered a collapse while attending the Bentonville fair from which he never fully rallied. Together with his wife they had conducted the Anderson House at Pea Ridge for many years.

ANDERSON, Martha Ellen HIBBS - Mrs. Martha Ellen Hibbs Anderson was born June 20, 1851 in Mason county, Illinois. When seven years of age her parents moved to Sangamon county, Ill. near Springfield where she grew to womanhood. She was reared by Christian parents and was converted and joined the M.E. church when she was 12 years of age. She was a faithful worker in the church and a teacher in the Sunday School for years. She was elected Sunday School superintendent when very young and served a number of times as such. July 3, 1878 she married O.F. Anderson in Carlyle, Kan. where they lived a number of years. Later they moved to Pea Ridge, Ark. where they lived ever since. She was the first Sunday School superintendent of the M.E. church in Pea Ridge. She served as township president for Mt. Vernon township for the International Sunday School for twelve years, was district president of District No. 12 for two years. She has filled every office in the Pea Ridge church. She was also the first woman delegate to the annual conference of the Fayetteville district. She was instrumental in organizing and maintaining a church in the village where she lived when a young girl. Mrs. Anderson passed away Monday and was laid to rest in the Pea Ridge cemetery Tuesday. She was 77 years of age at her death. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Pea Ridge, being conducted by Rev. J.H. Ruble of Springdale and Rev. W.C. Hutton, her pastor. She leaves to mourn her loss an adopted son, J.B. Anderson of Joplin and a daughter whom she reared, Mrs. Harry Lee, of Hoisington, Kansas, also a brother who lives in Fort Scott, Kansas. Mr. Anderson was with her during her last illness and Mrs. Lee attended the funeral. Her husband passed away October 19, 1922.
