Howard A. Nickell, 49, of Route 2, Fayetteville, died Thursday at a local hospital. Born July 5, 1922 in Hazel Valley, the son of Richard and Alpha Brooks Nickell, he was an inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture; a deacon in the Salem Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Blanche Nickell of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Layer and Mrs. Judy Barker, both of Fayetteville, Mrs. Joann Gladden of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Miss Sandra Nickell of the home; three brothers, Richard of Fayetteville, Glen of Guam and Cecil of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Alexander of Thailand, Mrs. Wilma Jean Hillsdon of Memphis, Tenn.; and Mrs. Evelyn Gabbard of Fayetteville; his mother, Mrs. Alpha Anderson of Fayetteville and six grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church with burial in Nickell cemetery under direction of Nelson's Funeral Home.

Blanche Irene Nickell Gabbard, 71, of Fayetteville died Friday, Jan. 13, 1995, in Fayetteville.
Born Feb. 24, 1923, at Clifty, a daughter of Charles William and Althea Hardy Sandlian, she was a homemaker and a member of the Salem Baptist Church in Fayetteville. She was married to Howard A. Nickell.
Survivors are her second husband, Clyde Gabbard of Fayetteville; four daughters, JoAnn Nickell Gladden of Spicewood, Texas, Judy Nickell Barker of Fayetteville, Mary Nickell Layer of Winslow and Sandra Nickell Burton of Eufaula, Okla.; a brother, William Sandlian of Las Vegas; a sister, Robbie Ratliff of Springdale; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Nickell Memorial Church. Burial will be in the Nickell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. today at Nelson's Funeral Home. The family will gather at Mary Layer's home in Winslow.
