PATTON, Nannie C. PERKINS - Died, Nov. 16, 1908 at her home in Bentonville, Nannie C. Patton, aged 60 years, 6 months and 15 days. The deceased, a daughter of Rev. Elijah and Elizabeth Perkins, was born in Booneville, Mo. April 30th, 1848. Moved with her mother and family to Pea Ridge, Benton county, Ark., 1868. Was married to W.F. Patton April 30th, 1874. To this happy union were born three children, Harry Lee, Wm. Ernest and Anna Elizabeth. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and united with the M.E. Church, South about 1870. In 1881 she united with the C.P. Church. In 1906 when the union between the C.P. and the mother church was consummated she went with her church. In all her church relations she was faithful and true to her vows and obligations. Possessed with a strong intellect polished by acquirements and strengthened by Christian virtues, she realized her individual duties and responsibilities as wife, mother and Christian and pursued the duties of life and religion cheerfully, humbly and bravely. Her children bear the impress of their parental training and her heart was greatly comforted in the assurance that they all were endeavoring to follow the Master in their Christian life and duty. The cause of missions, home and foreign, lay near her heart. To this cause, through the societies and boards of the church, she gave much of her time, talent and means for the dissemination of the Gospel and the extension of the Redeemer's kingdom. She loved the Southland and people, was president of the Daughters of the Confederacy of Bentonville and was active in securing means for the erection of the beautiful monument on the public square to the memory of the fallen Confederate soldiers. The Daughters of the Confederacy, in honor of their beloved president, attended the funeral, held in the Presbyterian Church by the writer, assisted by the pastor, Rev. W.S. Baker, in a body and in their organized capacity. Among the kindred who from a distance had come to visit the deceased and who attended the funeral, were her brother, Hon. George S. Perkins, of Greenville, Tex. and her sister, Mrs. L.J. Lee of Cordell, Oklahoma, her sister-in-law, Mrs. Requa of Neosho, Mo., Ed G. Perkins of Dallas, Tex. her children, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Patton and their three little children, Perkins Lefevre, Lillian Elizabeth and Wm. Henry, from Texico, New Mexico. The remains were laid to rest in the City Cemetery at Bentonville in the presence of a large and sympathizing congregation. Many beautiful floral offerings by the daughters of the Confederacy and loving friends completely covered the grave as tokens of love and condolence. May the supporting grace and comforting spirit of the blessed Christ rest upon the bereft family and friends. P. Carnahan.
