Mary Willard Smith, 86 of Van Buren died Tuesday, July 25, 1995 in a local hospital.
She was a retired piano teacher and income tax practitioner.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Van Buren, taught school in 1940 in Cotter, and was employed by Sears in Fort Smith and Little Rock.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse S. Smith.
She was survived by a daughter, Theresa Sue Rogers of Baldwin, Kansas; a son Byron Smith of Van Buren; a sister, Theresa Ainsworth of Broken Arrow, Ok; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Jesse S. Smith, 70 of Van Buren, was a lawyer and former Representative from Crawford County in the Arkansas Legislature from 1949-1951. He practiced law in Van Buren since 1946. He was a member of the Arkansas and Crawford County Bar Association and a retired circuit court reporter.
He attended John Brown University and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member and deacon of the Van Buren First Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife, Mary Willard Bennett Smith; a daughter, Theresa Sue Rogers of Topeka, Kansas; a son, Jesse Byron of Van Buren; three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Otwell of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Katherine Harris of Wichita, Kansas and Mrs. Verna Ambler of Chandler, Oklahoma; one brother Leonard C. Smith of Van Buren and five grandchildren.
