A. L. “Allen” Harber, a son of the late Richard and Rhoda Deshazo Harber was born at Calico Rock October 19, 1874 and passed away at the Izard County Memorial Hospital in Melbourne August 23, 1960 at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 4 days. He was married in 1898 at Calico rock to Miss Ella Everett who preceded him in death by several years. They were the parents of ten children, eight of whom survive him, two children having predeceased their father.
He was remarried on April 5, 1940 at Salem to Mrs. Fannie Williams, who lives to survive him. The surviving children are: five sons, J. N. of Seminole, Okla., Marvin, of Bexar, R. T. of Kansas City, Kansas, Amos and Woodrow both of Oxford: and three daughters, Mrs. Curtis Sublett (Vada) of Kansas City, Kansas, Mrs. Curtis Smith (Gussie) of California and Mrs. Ernest Pinkston (Ruth) of Phoenix Arizona. He is also survived by one brother, Dr. J. N. Harber of Phoenix, Ariz., thirteen grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Harber was a retired farmer and livestock dealer and had been a resident of Oxford for a number of years.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at the Oxford Church of Christ by Elder Bruce, assisted by Elder G. W. Howard. The song service was directed by Hoyt Rowden. Burial was made in the Oxford Cemetery by Carter Funeral Service of Salem with Al Pomeroy and wife, Mae directors in charge.
Casket bearers were sons and sons-in-law of the deceased, namely: Newt, Amos, Marvin, Ray Insell. and R. T. Harber, Ernest Pinkston.
