Coy Derrell Ferguson of Oxford, son of the late Henry Melvin Ferguson and Bertha Mae Ellis Ferguson was born April 24, 1925 in Oxford. He died September 9, 1997 at his home in Oxford. He was 72.

Mr. Ferguson was united in marriage to Louise Fulbright October 31, 1947 in Dover. To this union, three children were born. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October.

Mr. Ferguson served his country in the United States Army Merrill’s Marauder during World War II in Burma. He was a retired educator, teaching Science and serving as Superintendent of the Oxford School System where he retired in 1987 after 41 years. He was a member of the Oxford Methodist Church, the Oxford City Council, Hays Masonic Lodge #289 F. and A.M., The White River Car Club, the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association and a 4-H leader for 40 years.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, James Ferguson of Oxford; two daughters, Ladonna McBride of Oxford and Lees Boon and her husband Robert of Mountain View; two grandchildren, Billy Derrell McBride and Louise McBride, both of Oxford; one sister, Brada Bone and her husband, Gardon of Oxford and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Lena Grace and his parents.

Service will be held September 12, 1997 at the Oxford Methodist Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Bobby Coleman officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cox-Estes Chapel in Salem. Memorials may be made to the I.C.C. School Library or to Hospice.
