Verdell J. Ferguson, son of the late Marion J. Ferguson and Mary Frances Brooks Ferguson, was born July 12, 1924 in Mount Pleasant. He died on February 8, 2002 at White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was 77.
He was a farmer, a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, a member of the Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge #181 of Mount Pleasant.
Ferguson is survived by his wife Betty J. Ferguson of the home; three sons, Steve Johnson of Mount Pleasant; Harlin Ferguson of Arizona; Blain Ferguson of Oklahoma; three sisters, Grace Johnson of Mount Pleasant; Jewell Bray of Mount Pleasant and Ethell Walker of Washington; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother Vernon Ferguson; another brother Chester Ferguson; two sisters, Myrtle Lewis and Zelma Alexander.
Funeral services were February 10, 2002 at Roller Crouch Chapel in Melbourne with Brother Lee Cording officiating. Pallbearers were Wade Toler, Jim Dick Johnson, Gus Sanchez, R.W. Hollowell, Roger Campbell and Larry Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were Menard Harvell, James Johnson, Robby Qualls, George Johnson, Floyd Force, Larry Lee and Don Ferguson.
Interment was at the Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Crouch Funeral Home in Melbourne
