Julia Caruthers Passed Away Near Oxford

Julia Ann Gibson Caruthers, a daughter of the late George and Mrs. Gibson was born April 18, 1873 and passed away at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Steve Caruthers, near Oxford September 12, 1963 at the age of 90 years, four months and 25 days, following a long and lingering illness.

She was married December 26, 1895 to John Mart Caruthers who preceded her in death in 1955. She was also predeceased by a son Ed Caruthers, who passed away in Dec. 1947.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Steve (Leffie) Taylor of Oxford, Mrs. Marvin (Lela) Chadwick of Cushing, Okla. and Mrs. Roe Franks of Raytown, Mo.; Tom Gibson of Oxford, 17 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was a long time member of the Baptist Church and was a life long resident of the vicinity of Oxford.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon September 14 at the Oxford Baptist Church by the Rev. Stanley Cooper and Rev. Remmel Rowden. Memorial songs were directed by Earl Dillard with Miss Katherine Webb at the piano.

Burial was in the Oxford Cemetery by Carter Funeral Services of Salem. Pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased.

[Note: The obituary states that she passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Steve Caruthers. That should be Mrs. Steve Taylor.]
