Troy Lee Caruthers of Oxford, son of the late David Lee and Addie Lou Carter Caruthers, was born September 28, 1905 at Union. He died November 8, 1998 at Fulton County Nursing Center in Salem. He was 93.

Mr. Caruthers was united in marriage to Lois Cantrell on May 25, 1930 at Oxford. To this union, three children were born. He was a self-employed farmer and worked for the Arkansas State Forestry Department at the Pleasant Ridge Fire Tower for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and received his 50 year pen recently. He was a charter member of the Oxford Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of the home; one son, Junior Caruthers and his wife Mary Ann of Independence, Missouri; two daughters, Gwen Martin of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Glenna Goodwin and her husband Jerry of Healdton, Oklahoma; six sisters, Tressie Bell and Rosalene Cantrell, both of Oxford, Gertrude Keylon of Franklin, Lola Turner of Springfield, Missouri and Vera Ward and Effie Ward both of Salem; five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Roy and Juel Caruthers and two sisters, Stella Tanner and Nola Belle Smith.

Services were November 12, 1998 at Oxford Baptist Church with Brother Noble Wiles officiating.

Pallbearers were Billy Martin, Donald Ward, Doug Tanner, Jack Yancey, Jim Cantrell and Steve Stevenson; Honorary pallbearers were John Hatfield, Sanford Howard, Teddy McCurley, Nelson Barruns and Roger Dockins.

Interment was at Oxford Cemetery with arrangements by Cox-Estes Funeral Home in Salem.
