Roy Ray Caruthers, son of the late Dave Lee and Addie Lewallen Carter Caruthers was born April 13, 1915 in Oxford. He departed this life August 19, 1983 at the Fulton County Hospital in Salem, at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 6 days.

He resided in Oxford. He was united in marriage to Rachael Gibson at Oxford, on December 7, 1935. To this union one child was born.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Caruthers of Oxford, one son, Bobbie Caruthers of Oxford; two brothers, Troy Caruthers of Oxford, Juel Caruthers of Victoria, California; six sisters, Mrs. Lola Turner of Springfield, Missouri, Mrs. Tressie Bell of Oxford, Mrs. Roselene Helm of Oxford, Mrs. Effie Ward of Salem, Mrs. Vera Ward of Salem, Mrs. Gertrude Keylon of Franklin; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. He also was a member of the Masons and believed in the Methodist Church.

Services for Roy Ray Caruthers were held Sunday August 21, 1983 at the Oxford Methodist-Presbyterian Church with Reverend B. W. Stalcup officiating. Music was provided by the Church Choir.

Pallbearers included Earl Ray Rodman and A. J. Hatman as honorary pallbearers and Jack Grimmett, Gene Blevins, Billy Martin, Lindell Blevins, Remmell Taylor and Donald Ward as active pallbearers.

Burial was held at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford under the direction of the Leland Carter Funeral Home of Salem.
