David L. Caruthers Oxford Citizen Dies

Father of 11 children, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren

David L. Caruthers, aged 70, died at his home in Oxford Saturday, April 10, following an illness of several months. He was a very successful farmer and a good citizen of Oxford, having lived there all his life.

Surviving are his wife; eight daughters, Miss Tressie Caruthers, Mrs. Nola Belle Montgomery and Mrs. Roselene Helm of Oxford, Mrs. Effie Ward, Mrs. Vera Ward and Mrs. Gertrude Keylon of Wiseman; Mrs. Stella Merle of Violet Hill and Mrs. Lola Turner of Springfield, Missouri; three sons, Roy Caruthers and Troy Caruthers of Oxford and Jurl Caruthers of Conway, Arkansas, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One brother, John Caruthers of Oxford and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Carnell of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, Mrs. Jane O Kelley and Mrs. Clem Richardson of Cushing, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held at Oxford Methodist Church Sunday, April 11, with the Rev Hugh Cooper officiating. Burial was under the direction of the Higginbotham Funeral Service.
