Mr. Shirley Swan, 80, of Hamburg died Monday, January 24, 2000, at the Ashley County Medical Center. A native of Hamburg and life-time resident of the Pine Hill community, he was a member of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church and an U. S. Army veteran of World War II.. He retired from the Georgia-Pacific plywood mill in 1978 after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by a son, Charles "Buster" Swan in 1995; a daughter, Cathy Swan, in 1953; his parents, John W. and Hattie Jordan Swan; three brothers, Louis, Radford and Lonnie Swan; three sisters, including his twin, Verlie Swan, and Addine Leigh and Nathalee Bozeman Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Iva Kate Norrell Swan; a daughter, Susan Kay Swan of Longview, TX; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Norrell Swan of Hamburg; a brother, Rayford Swan of Hamburg; a sister, Donnie Pennington of Crossett; a grandson, Jason Lovett of Hamburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, in the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church with Revs. Paul McKissick and Lawrence Amos officiating. Pallbearers were Johnny and Billy Mark Swan, Kenneth and Johnnie Leigh, Wesley and Jerry Swan and Ronnie Bozeman. Burial followed services at the Carlock Cemetery, directed by Jones Funeral Home of Hamburg. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Christian Academy, 803 Ashley Road 95, Hamburg, AR 71646.
