FUNERAL OP JOHN EDWARDS HELD AT HIWASSE FRIDAY
The funeral services of John Edwards, who died at his home in Hiwasse Wednesday, was held Friday at 2 o'clock from the Christian Church of Hiwasse, with Rev. S. A. Morton, of Bentonville, officiating. Interment was made in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was one of the most prominent men in the entire community, and has helped build the country, having spent his entire life in and around Hiwasse.
He was born in December, 1869, at the Edwards homestead at Mt. Pleasant. He was engaged in farming for some time, later going into the mercantile and timber business. With the organization of the Bank of Hiwasse, Mr. Edwards was elected the first cashier, which position he held until 1920, when he was forced to retire from active work on account of ill health. At that time he was elected president of the bank.
He married Mary Banks in December 1891, by which union he survived by three children, his wife, Orville, Freeman and Gladys Edwards. His father, Wm. Edwards, is also living with County Judge W. R. Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was a very progressive man and a strong church worker, having been a member of the Christian Church of Hiwasse for some time.
He is survived by five brothers--Shade Edwards and J. P. Edwards, of Hiwasse; Dave Edwards, of Southwest City, Mo.; Frank Edwards, of Dodge, Okla., and County Judge W. R. Edwards, of Bentonville. Three sisters -— Emma Dane Wood, of Wayside, Kansas; Mary Milstead, of Cleburne, Texas, and Nannie Kendall, of Proctor, Okla. Three grand-children also survive him and Mrs. Sam Beasley and. Mrs. Reed Adcock, sisters of Mrs. Edwards.
