EDWARDS, William Lewis - Funeral services were held in Rogers last Friday for W.L. Edwards, aged 65 years, who died the previous day following a short illness. He was one of the first merchants in Rogers, opening a grocery store there in 1909.

W.L. Edwards, 65, one of the pioneer business men of Rogers, died at his home on North Sixth street at 7:50 a.m. Thursday after a critical illness of eight days although he has been in poor health for several years. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon from Central Methodist church at 2 o'clock with the Rev. J.A. Womack officiating. Burial was in the Rogers cemetery with J.W. Bryant in charge. Mr. Edwards formerly lived in Clinton, Mo. but came to Rogers 37 years ago and opened a grocery store. He continued operation of the grocery business with his son, Howard, until his health forced him to retire. He is survived by his widow; one son, Howard, and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Hughes, all of Rogers; and three sisters, Mrs. W.E. Johnson of Clinton, Mo., Mrs. Ed Gray of Calhoun, Mo. and Mrs. Mary Adams of Red Lodge, Mont.

W.L. Edwards, 65 years old, died at 8 o'clock Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 1930 at his home at 311 North Sixth street. Mr. Edwards and wife came here in 1893 to make their home. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Central Methodist church. Burial was in Rogers cemetery. The Rev. J.A. Womack conducted the funeral services. William Lewis Edwards was born in Henry county, Missouri on August 6, 1865. He was married at Leesville, Mo. to Miss Laura Acock Jan. 14, 1890. Besides his wife he is survived by one son and one daughter, Howard Edwards and Mrs. Paul Hughes, both of Rogers. Mr. Edwards was engaged in the grocery business until his health failed six years ago when he turned the management over to his son.

Mrs. Laura Decker Edwards died Friday morning at 9:25 o' clock after a long illness at the home of her daughter, Mrs Paul Hughes, 515 North Third street. Mrs Edwards came to Rogers in 1893. She was the wife of the late W L Edwards, former grocery store owner, who died in November 1930.

Survivors beside the daughter with whom she made her home, are a son Howard Edwards, of Tulsa, Okla; four grandchildren, Mary Jean and Billy Thomas Hughes of Rogers, Miss Laura Edwards and Mrs. Reeves Williams Jr. both of Tulsa, and a brother, Dick Acock of Lincoln, Mo.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the Callison funeral home. Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery.
