Annabel Hawkins, 95, of Saint Paul, Arkansas, died July 24, 2002, at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. She was born January 17, 1907, at Aurora, Arkansas, the daughter of Hugh and Maidlee Roberts Jackson. She began teaching at age 16 an taught at numerous one room schools in Madison County. In 1956 she went to New Mexico and taught until 1971. She also spent five months teaching in Caracas, Venezuela. She retired from teaching and working summers and taking correspondence courses, she had earned her Bachelor's and Master's degree in English from the University of Arkansas. She was a Methodist but attended Saint Paul Bible Church. She was the widow of Henry Hawkins whom she married in 1932 and who preceded her in death on July 12, 1955. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Lenita Schieffler in 1982, a grandson, David Schieffler, in 1968, two brothers, Noel Jackson and Hobart Jackson and two sisters, Mrs. Alpha Dennis and Mrs. Esta Hanson.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law Landon and Lynn Hawkins of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Donald and Sally Hawkins of Sheridan, Arkansas; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Corienne and Sonny Varnell of Saint Paul, Arkansas and Gene Schieffler of Kauffman, Texas; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 27, 2002, at the Saint Paul Full Gospel Church with Reverend Danny Schieffler and Reverend Sam Judd officiating. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville. Pallbearers were Randy Varnell, Steven Varnell, Eddie Schieffler, Clay Bell, Mike Hawkins, Roy Foster, Richard Hawkins and Reid Hawkins.

Funeral services for Henry D. Hawkins, 58, St. Paul resident who died at the City hospital in Fayetteville July 12 were held at St. Paul Thursday, July 14 at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. L. L. Langston, Methodist minister. Mr. Hawkins had been in ill health for the past several years.

He was born in Madison county April 12, 1897, the son of William J. Hawkins and Rachel Witt Hawkins and was a lifelong resident of the county.

Survivors include his wife, Anabel of the home; his mother, Mrs. Rachel Hawkins of Combs; two daughters, Mrs. Lenita Schieffler of Victoria, Texas; and Corriene Hawkins of the home; two sons, Landon and Donald Hawkins, of the home; a grandson, Daniel Kent; three brothers, Eddie Hawkins of Combs, Jasper Hawkins of Fayetteville, and Delmar Hawkins of Washington state; four sisters, Mrs. Louise Ellishman of Joplin, MO., Mrs. Dora Holland of Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Pearl Williams of Washington state, and Mrs. Mary Haskins of Combs.

Funeral arrangements were by Brashears Funeral Home and burial was in the Riverside cemetery near St. Paul.
