FUNERAL FOR MRS. MAYFIELD HELD AT BUTTRAM CHAPEL

Funeral services for Mrs. Nannie McCullough Mayfield, aged 54, widow of the late James L. Mayfield, who died at the Mayfield home near Pea Ridge on the Old Leetown Road, at 9 o’clock Monday night, Dec. 30th, 1935, just 10 days after the death of her husband, were held at Buttram’s Chapel at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Shelby, pastor of the Pea Ridge Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Burial was in the Buttram Chapel cemetery.

Her death followed an illness of more than three years.

Mrs. Mayfield was born at Afton, Okla., May 17th, 1881, and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton McCullough. Since her marriage, March 18th, 1900, to James L. Mayfield, well known member of an old Northwest Arkansas family, they had lived at the Mayfield farm, a part of Winton-Rice homestead near Old Leetown, on the historic site at the three-day battles of Leetown, Elkhorn and Pea Ridge. Her husband’s death occurred there on Dec. 20th, 1935, after several months’ illness.

Of their seven children, four preceded their parents in death. Surviving them are one son, James Berry Mayfield of Pea Ridge, and two daughters, Mrs. Kee Lynch of Hugoton, Kansas, and Miss Lena Mayfield of the home. Mrs. Mayfield also is survived by one brother, Joe McCullough of Elms, Washington and three nephews, George McCullough of Dallas, Texas, Milton McCullough of Miami, Okla., and Rex McCullough of Tulsa, Okla., by other relatives and a great number of friends.

Mrs. Mayfield was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at Bestwater, near her home, and also was a member of the Bestwater Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, women’s auxiliary of the Masonic Lodge.
