McGARRAH, Marlett - {from The Rogers Daily Post, Sept. 24} Marlett, aged sixteen years, son of Geo. McGarrah of Monte Ne, died yesterday under distressing circumstances and was buried this afternoon. There are conflicting reports as to the cause of his death. One theory is that it was caused from a punishment inflicted upon the boy by his school teacher on Thursday, Sept. 12. The other report is that death resulted from the blow of a stick inflicted by a young lady pupil on Friday, Sept. 13 in resentment of an epithet applied to the girl by the lad. Young McGarrah suffered increasingly from the injury until Monday, Sept. 16, since which time he lay unconscious most of the time until his death yesterday, the 23rd. Drs. R.S. and C.A. Rice were called yesterday and performed an autopsy. Indications pointed to a fracture of the skull but the autopsy developed the fact that no fracture had occurred. It was found that the injury caused paralysis of the brain. C.C. Pace, the teacher, is said to have admitted slapping the boy. The young woman in question is said to have confessed that she struck him over the head with a stick. Mr. Pace was raised in this county, has lived in Rogers ten years and is an old school teacher. He has always borne a good name and his friends believe that his record in the affair will bear investigation.
