Services for W.E. 'Gene' Adams fo Norfork were at 10AM Friday at Galatia Assembly of God Church in Norfork with Bro. Ray Lamb and Bro. Paul Huskey officiating. Mr. Adams died Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at his residence. He was 88.
He was born Oct 3, 1912, at Norfork to the late Enoch Jackson and Bertie Avis Tucker Adams. He married the former Cleo Taylor on Dec 7, 1942, at Mt. Home. He was a retired businessman. He worked on Bull Shoals and Norfork dams. Mr. Adams delived milk door-to-door for Twin Lakes Dairy for 10 years. He was a lifetime area native.
He was a member fo the Baxter County Democratic Committee, Norfork School Board of Education and was a board member of Galatia Cemetery Committee. He served for many years as an election marshall. He was a member of Galatia Christian Fellowship Church and was a deacon. Mr. Adams enjoyed gardening, plowing with mules and trail rides.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo Adams, of the home; a son Bill Adams and wife, Pat of Norfork; daughters, Nelda Speaks and husband, Benny, of Mt. Home, Glenna Greer and husband, Ken, of Fayetteville, Mary Speaks and husband, Doug, and Sandra Cockrum and husband, Frank, all of Holt, MO, Nadine Huskey and husband, Doug, Norfork and Gay Beard of Gassville; sisters, Hattie Whitfield of Norfork, Lillian Nimmo of Huntsville, Texas, Mildred Page of Mt. Home, Earnestine Clark of Norfork, Jessie Zornes of Iola, KS, and Nettie J. Whitaker of Calico Rock; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melba Clark; a granddaughter, Rhonda Clark; a brother Wilson Adams; sisters, Goldie Cunningham and Zora Sledge; and step mothers, Maude Adams and Stella Adams.
Burial was in Galatia Cemetery with grandson, Shannon Beard, Mitch Speaks, Rodger Graton, Steve Basty, Jerry Corson, John Gray, Rus Weatherby, Dean Ripple and Richard Moranz as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Roe Whitfield and the men of the Galatia Christian Fellowship.
Memorials may be made to the Galatia Christian Fellowship or Hospice of the ozarks.
