Benton County Democrat

BLACK, John Sidney - Died, at his home in Bentonville, Arkansas on Sunday, August 22d, 1915, John Sidney Black, aged 52 years, 8 months and 28 days. Funeral services were conducted at the home on Monday afternoon by the Rev. H.W. Steen, of the Presbyterian church, and Rev. Ira W. Torrence of the Methodist Episcopal church. Burial was made in the city cemetery The deceased was born in Bentonville, Arkansas November 24, 1862 and lived in the town of his nativity until death called him away. In early manhood he confessed his faith in Christ and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian church in which communion he remained constant and faithful all his days on earth. In the year 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Mamie Wakefield of Bentonville and to them were born four children, Ela, William, Clinton and Lena, all of whom with his wife survive him. The above is a brief resume of the life of the deceased in its mere outward seeming, but tells nothing of the kindly, gentle heart of him or of his cheerful, sunny disposition. It can be said in truth that he was one of the best loved men both by old and young that ever lived among us. He was honest and conscientious in his daily walk and work and was not capable of knowingly wronging his fellow man. His friends were many but by the children of the town will be most tenderly remembered and mourned. Most truly has death been cheated of a victory, for he will live long in the hearts and memory of the little children, his friends.
