BLACK, Hugh - Hugh Black, a well known citizen of this community and member of an old pioneer family, died at his home seven miles northeast of Bentonville at 1:40 a.m. Monday, March 28, 1932 after a short illness. A heart attack followed by pneumonia is said to have caused him to succumb. Two years ago Mr. Black suffered an attack of weak heart and his condition was regarded as serious for several days. He had been quite well since then and two months ago he entered the race for sheriff of Benton County. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. A.W. Henderson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, conducting the services. Burial was made beside his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Black, in the City Cemetery in Bentonville. Mr. Black was born in Bentonville in 1870. He was the son of John and Sophia Black, early residents of this section. His father was a prominent citizen of this county and served as county and circuit clerk for 20 years. Mr. Black and Miss Maude Stephenson of Pea Ridge were married by the late F.M. Seamster of Avoca, the grandfather of Lee, Alvin, Jess, Roy and Marion Seamster. For forty years he was in the employe of the Frisco, K.C. and Southern, K.C.O. and G. railroads. About 12 years ago he bought a farm on upper Sugar Creek which has since been his home. Besides his widow he is survived by three children: Mrs. Pauline Patterson of Rogers and John and Hugh Black, Jr. of the home, also by two sisters, Mrs. Mollie Tinnin and Miss Kitty Black of Bentonville, besides many other relatives.

Hugh Black, widely known resident of this section of Benton county and a candidate for the office of sheriff, died at his home five miles northwest of Rogers Monday morning following an illness of several days. His death was attributed to pneumonia with complications of heart trouble. Mr. Black, who was born and reared in Benton county, was the son of John Black, who for 20 years served as county clerk, and a grandson of former Congressman Arthur Greenwood. Mr. Black was a candidate for sheriff at the time of his death, having announced his candidacy several weeks ago. He is survived by his widow, three children, Mrs. Homer Patterson, John Black and Hugh Black, Jr.; and two sisters, Miss Kittie Black and Mrs. Mary L. Tinnin, both of Bentonville. Funeral services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon with burial arrangements in charge of J.W. Bryant.
