William Dean Floyd, 94, of Melbourne died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born December 22, 1918 in Violet Hill and was the son of Henderson S. Floyd and Rena B. (Blevins) Floyd.
He served in the US Army during World War II in the 81st Wild Cat Infantry Division. He fought in the Battle of Peleliu and while in the military received a Bronze Star, two Battle Stars, a Combat Invasion Badge, a Philippine Liberation Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Dean farmed many years in Franklin and retired to Melbourne. He was a lifelong resident of Izard County. He was a member of the American Legion and the Melbourne First Baptist Church where he had previously served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Survivors include a sister, Johnie Caldwell of Pleasant Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evans Floyd; brothers; Ethrig Floyd and Quincy Floyd; and a sister, Nola Barnes.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 18, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Melbourne with Ricky Burke officiating.
Interment will be at Violet Hill Cemetery by Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers will be James Floyd, Jerry Floyd, Quincy Massey, Allen Pierce, Bill Williams, and Sheriff Tate Lawrence.
Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the funeral home.
