HOLLAND, Thomas M. - Thomas M. Holland, who was born near Slatesville, Idell county, North Carolina on Nov. 29, 1848, departed this life at his home in Healing Springs, Arkansas March 20, 1931 at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 20 days. In the days of his youth he came with his parents to Benton county, Arkansas and located near Healing Springs and in that immediate vicinity spent the remainder of his life where he made a great number of friends and acquaintances. At the age of 21 he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Kerr and to this union were born five children - two daughters: Catherine Holland Austin and Cora Holland Steele; three sons: Robert, Will and Oscar. Suffering the loss of his companion in death he afterwards, on Jan. 11, 1881, was united in marriage with Miss Nannie Brickey and to this union were born four children - three sons: Lon, Homer and Roy; one daughter, Pearl Holland McClure. Clara Crow made her home with Uncle Tom Holland from infancy until her marriage. He leaves to mourn his loss his immediate family, six sons, one daughter, one brother (Henry Holland of Elm Springs, Ark.), 36 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and an innumerable company of friends. At the age of 33 he was soundly converted to the Gospel of our Lord, placing his membership with the M.E. church at Thornberry, which membership he retained till his death. His life needs no eulogy as his deeds and character stand out as a living monument and he leaves an influence invaluable to those who knew him. Funeral services were attended by a host of friends besides the family, Rev. Sauree having charge. Afterwards the Masonic lodge took charge and laid their beloved brother to rest in the Thornberry cemetery.
