Zelma Wall Carter Young, 96, of Crossett died Sunday, February 29, 2004. Born October 13, 1907, in Crossett to J. M. and Mattie Lou Brooks Wall, she was a member of North Crossett First Freewill Baptist Church and a former member of the Women's Auxiliary. She was a homemaker, a former nurse's aide for several years at the Crossett Health Center and a longtime member of the Pine Hurst Home Demonstration Club. She loved to garden, work with flowers, crochet and take care of her pets.
Survivors include one daughter, Martiel Carter Barnett of Crossett; one foster son, Alvin Malloy of North Little Rock; one grandson, Jerry Mac Barnett; one grandson-in-law, Johnnie Bolin; one granddaughter, Kathy Baldwin, all of Crossett; five brothers, Garland Wall of Amarillo, TX, James Wall of Birmingham, AL, Carroll Wall of Crossett, Bill Wall of Aurora, CO, and Roy Wall of Ruston, LA; four sisters, Catherine Ford of Hot Springs, Gladys Duncan of Mesa, AZ, Polly Sullivan of North Little Rock and Jimmie Ann Robbins of Onalaska, TX; five great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William H. Carter, Elzie Barnett and Curtis Young; one granddaughter, Betty Barnett Bolin; one grandson, Bruce Barnett; two brothers, Travis Wall and Travis Smith; and one sister, Tommie Wall Carter.
Funeral services were scheduled for Wednesday, March 3, at 10 a.m. at North Crossett First Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Billy Ralph Carter, Bro. Gene Cullum and Johnnie Bolin officiating. Burial was to follow at Carter Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
