HAYS, Samuel Buchanan - G.W. Williams had charge of the funeral service for Sam Hays Sunday afternoon at the Pratt cemetery near Garfield. Mr. Hays had been confined to his home for the past twelve months with cancer of the stomach. He was a member of a pioneer family of Pea Ridge and a member of one of the largest. His family numbered 12, all of whom grew to maturity, but only two sisters survive him. One who lives in Texas and Mrs. George Burks of Bestwater. He is also survived by his wife and five children, all of whom attended the funeral. He was 66 years of age. The summons came Saturday evening at 6:30 o'clock, March 4th, 1933.

[from Tallow Ridge) Samuel Buchanan Hays, who had been ill for several months, died at his home at 6:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the age of 66 years, 3 months, 29 days. Mr. Hays was born in Madison county, Arkansas Nov. 5, 1866 and was married to Julia Ann Birkes Oct. 18, 1897. To this union were born six children, one dying in infancy. Mr. Hays is survived by his widow and five children: Mrs. Minnie Foster, Mrs. Emma Elington, Edd, Charles and Irene Hays, all of whom were at his bedside at his death. He bore his suffering patiently. The family wishes to thank the friends and neighbors for their kindness during the illness and death of their loved one.
