William Shafter Dockins, son of the late Walter and Dora Hicks Dockins, was born in Izard County, Ar. June 24, 1900 and departed this life in the Salem Clinic, May 17, 1977 at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 23 days.
He was united in marriage to Onia Lee Clark at Dolph, AR April 23, 1921 and to this union ten children were born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, one son and one sister.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, of the home at Oxford, three sons, Chiton Dockins of Brockwell, Ar., W. L. Dockins of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Billy Dockins of Oxford; four daughters, Ruby Davis of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Ala Mae Stevenson of Brockwell, AR, Rudene Everett of Little Rock and Shirley Cunningham of Tuscaloosa, Ala., three brothers, Thurman Dockins of Beedaville, AR., Grady Melton of Mossee City, Wa., and Willie Dockins of Oklahoma; one sister Nola Sanders of Dolph, AR; three half-sisters, Epper Yancey of Oxford, Kate Clark of Brockwell and Alice Lancaster of Calico Rock; three half brothers, Remmell Dockins of Mtn. Home, AR, Lester Dockins of Batesville and Cehron Weston of Oxford, Seventeen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Thursday, may 19, 1977 at 2 o’clock p.m. at the Oxford Baptist Church with Rev. Duane Flood and Rev. Garland Skidmore officiating. Interment was in the Oxford cemetery under the direction of the Leland Carter Funeral Home of Salem.
Caskets bearers were Randy Dockins, Melvis Dockins, James Dockins, Danny Stevenson, Steve Stevenson and Glenn Davis.
