J.A. Field was a native of Tennessee, born September 29, 1833, married Mary L. Smith, January 10, 1867. She was born in Tennessee 1848. Their children were Charles L., born December 28, 1868, Mary Ella, born September 7, 1871 and Bessie L., born June 28, 1879. Mr Field served in the Confederate army in Cabell's Brigade. He was one of the earliest fruit growers in Benton County.
