FATHER AND DAUGHTER DIE IN WRECK

A Mt. Home father and his 4 month old daughter were instantly killed Friday about 10PM just east of Gassville on Highway 62 in a head on crash involving two cars.
Chip Casteel, 30, was traveling west in his 1963 Ford, accompanied by Lisa Rane Casteel, whose final adoption papers had been received by the Casteels only the day before.
Investigating officers were unable to determine exactly what occurred but it was obvious that Casteel lost control of his car just about the peak of the slight rise in the highway east of the drive-in theatre.
There were skid marks on the south side of the
highway at that point but officers could not be sure they were Casteel's.
But they could follow skid marks on the north side of the highway for approximately 200 feet to the point of impact, which were obviously made by the Casteel car.
The car was skidding sideways and crossed the highway into the front of a 1966 Ford pickup driven by Ronnie Joyce, 22, of Mt. Home, which was traveling east. Joyce was accompanied by Carl Jenkins, also 22.
The impact was terrific, officers said, the side being torn off the Casteel car and the front of the pickup being telescoped.
Both vehicles came to a stop in the ditch, headed the opposite direction from which they had been traveling and the bodies of both Casteel and the baby were thrown out of the car -- his some distance. The bed of the pickup was torn loose by the crash and blocked the north lane of traffic at a point east of the impact.
Joyce and Jenkins are in the Boone County Hospital in critical condition.
Trooper Bill Miles investigated the accident assisted by Trooper John Kidwell.
