DEASON, Irena C. MAXWELL - On last Thursday, August 18, 1910 at 9:45 o'clock a.m. Mrs. Irena C. Deason peacefully and quietly passed away at the home of her son, W.G. Deason, at Rogers. The deceased belonged to that old class of citizens who settled in this county in an early day and blazed the way for our present day civilization with all its manifold blessings and comforts. And it is with regret we note that these sturdy old pioneers are fast disappearing and ere long the last one of them will have been called to their reward. Mrs. Deason {nee Maxwell} was born in Marion county, East Tennessee on March 22, 1838 and at the time of her death was aged seventy-two years, four months and twenty-seven days. In 1852, at the age of fourteen years, she came with her parents to this county and settled near where the city of Rogers now stands, in which community she has resided almost continuously since coming to this country. On October 4, 1857 she was married to John R. Deason and to this union were born fourteen children, nine of whom are still living. Something near thirty years ago her husband died, which left the care of rearing the children, several of whom were quite young, on the mother and though the future at that time seemed dark and despairing, she took up the task with a grim determination to do the best under the circumstances and lived to see her efforts more than crowned with success - all her children having become useful and honored citizens of the community and the pride of the fond mother's heart. The deceased was a sister of O.D. Maxwell of this city and Rev. A.J. Maxwell of Rogers, New Mexico, the only surviving members of the family. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Rogers Friday afternoon, a large congregation being in attendance. Interment was made in the Oakley Chapel cemetery. Thus ended a long, useful and beautiful life. Peace to her ashes. Condolence to the bereaved relatives.

Mrs. Rena Deason died this morning at 9:45 o'clock at the home of her son, Will Deason. She was taken suddenly ill last night and her unexpected death was a great shock to the family and community. Funeral services will be held tomorrow {Friday} at the Baptist church at two o'clock. The pastor, Rev. Westbrook, will assist in conducting the services. Mrs. Deason had been a resident of the county for sixty-four years and was one of the best known and most popular women of this section. She was born in Tennessee March 22, 1838 and came here with her parents at the age of eight. Her maiden name was Rena Maxwell and she was a sister of Rev. A.J. Maxwell of Rogers, New Mexico and Denton Maxwell of Bentonville. She was married October 4, 1857 to John R. Deason, Rev. J.R. Dunagin performing the ceremony. To this union were born ten children, nine of whom are living and are as follows: Mrs. John Putman of Rogers; Mrs. C.J. Rayburn of Shawnee, Okla.; Mrs. Lizzie Woods of near Rogers; Mrs. Nannie Bowman, Rossville, Ill.; J.M. Deason, W.G. Deason, A.J. Deason, M.V. Deason and D.M.C. Deason, all of whom live in or near Rogers. Mr. Deason died in 1885 and until a few years ago Mrs. Deason lived on the home place north of town. Since then she has lived with her children and for the past year has lived chiefly with her son, Vint Deason. Her death marks the close of a long and busy life, and she leaves as a lasting monument to her memory one of the largest and most prominent families of this section. She was a consistent Christian woman, a loving and honored mother, a good neighbor. The family have the deepest sympathy of the entire community in their great loss.
