Requa Joann Davis passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023. Joann was born on November 30, 1931, in Alicia, Arkansas. She grew up near Stranger’s Home in Marion Township, Lawrence County, Arkansas. Her parents were John Arlan Ashby and Nancy Gertrude (Riddle) Ashby.
As a child, she moved to Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She graduated from Walnut Ridge High School where she was an excellent student and enjoyed playing basketball, developing a lifelong interest in the game. In her 30s, she attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and was selected for inclusion in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities while earning a degree in accounting.
On December 23, 1948, Requa Joann Ashby married Leroy John Davis, and their adoration for each other lasted a lifetime.
Leroy preceded her in death on November 1, 2002.
Survivors include three children: Dr. Terri Lyn (Davis) Hyatt, Dr. Randall Blake Davis, Dr. Mark Steven Davis, and his wife Linda McMurtry-Davis. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Lydia Nicole (Hyatt) Mayo, Abigail Joann (Hyatt) Ballard, Mary Laurissa Hyatt, Michael John Davis, and Steven Blake Davis. Additionally, she leaves behind five great-grandchildren: Ann Marie Davis, Joseph Shelton Davis, Cole Michael Davis, Caleb John Davis and Dean Clayton Mayo.
Joann was passionately devoted to her family and took great pride in their accomplishments. She enjoyed cooking and watching the many birds that frequented her backyard feeders. She had a love for gardening and took pride in the flowers, shrubs, and trees she planted around her house. She cherished Greers Ferry Lake in Arkansas, spending many summers camping there and instilling a love for camping in her children. Joann was a lifelong Razorback fan and had an unwavering support for all Razorback sports listening to games on the radio before televised broadcasts became common.
A graveside service will be held at Lawrence Memorial Park in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
