Rev. Jimmy Ray Ellis, 56, of Chillicothe, Mo., formerly of Gateway, died Thursday, Aug. 8, in Chillicothe.

Born, Dec. 31, 1934, in Garfield to Pat and Lida Harris Ellis, he was pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church of Chillicothe and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

His parents preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta Cantwell Ellis of the home; a son, Jerry Ellis of Washburn, Mo.; a daughter, Cindy Soper of Washburn, Mo.; four sisters, Oleta Havens of Kansas City, Mo., Flonnie Masner of Rogers, Lida Schnitzer of Gateway and Martha Goodall of Springdale; three brothers, Ellwood Ellis of Tulsa, Carl Ellis of Siloam Springs and Guy Ellis of Albany, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Service is set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Chillicothe. A graveside service will be at Roller Cemetery in Gateway at 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Roberta Lucille Ellis, age 87, of Seligman, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Roaring River Health and Rehab in Cassville, Missouri. She was born June 1, 1935, in Washburn, Missouri, the daughter of Tif and Mary Pauline (Henry) Cantwell. On February 24, 1955, in Seligman, Missouri she was united in marriage to Jimmy Ellis, who preceded her in death on August 8, 1991.

Also preceding her in death were her parents; one grandson, Trevor Coons and one brother, John F. “Buddy” Cantwell. Surviving are one son, Jerry Ellis and his wife Netta, of Seligman, Missouri; one daughter, Cindy Coons and her husband Jeff, of Bella Vista, Arkansas; one sister-in-law, Elsie Cantwell, of Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Roberta grew up and went to school in Washburn, Missouri, graduating from Southwest High School. After graduating she and Jimmy lived in Wichita, farm life and especially spending time with his grandparents, Ma and Pa Berryhill.

Kansas for a few years and returned to this area when he was discharged from the United States Army. She loved to travel, work outside in the yard and garden and very much enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville with Pastor Danny Heupel conducting the services. Burial was at Roller Ridge Cemetery in Gateway.

Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Roberta.
