White River Current, Calico Rock, Arkansas, December 26, 2002:
Revel Dean Simmons son of the late Eston and Gracie Graham Simmons, was born March 18, 1921 in Brockwell. He died December 19, 2002 in Salem. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Simmons was united in marriage to Vera Carter on May 7, 1944 in Sidney. After her passing in 1985, he was united in marriage to Louene Johnson on September 18, 1987 at the Pleasant Ridge Church.
During his working years, Revel was employed at McDonald Douglas, where he worked for 16 years. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 55 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and he served his country in the United States Army during WW II.
Survivors include his wife Louene of the home; three daughters and sons-in-laws, Shirley and Eldon Hellums of Pyatt; Ruby and Jerry Stuart of Salem and Wanda and David Grimes of Batesville; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Tina and Carley Davis of Camden; one step-son Toby Finster of Batesville; two sisters, Audean Baker of Mountain Home and Essie Simmons of Melbourne; nine grandchildren, Wesley Hellums, Tim Hellums, Loye Hellums, Cecil Dean Stuart, Davis Stuart, Melissa Mabe, Tina Pendergrass, Rachel Dixon, and Amy Brook; two step-grandchildren Jeffery and Chris Grimes; 16 great-grandchildren; 7 step-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one wife, Vera Simmons, one infant son, Loye Earl Simmons, one sister Marie Matlock, one brother, Noel Simmons; two great-grandchildren; Mary Beth Hellums and Marty Wayne Stuart.
Funeral services were December 23, 2002 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel with Carl Cravens and Leon Graves officiating.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hayes, Mark Herrington Eugene Jennings, Roy Teal, Bob Rector, and Glen Williams. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Hayes, Eddie Thornley, Gary Thornley and the Pastors and Deacons of the Rocky Bayou Association.
Interment was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Eddie’s Family Funeral Home.
