Shirley Valora Sewell Dumas, 93 of Tyler, TX, formerly of El Dorado, AR, died on Friday, November 4, 2016 in Tyler, TX, after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born on March 2, 1923 in the Shuler Community; she was the daughter of Alvin C. Sewell and Ivy Phillips Sewell. Shirley graduated from high school in Mt. Holly, AR as valedictorian and received an associate’s degree from the Agricultural and Mechanical College in Magnolia, AR. After a short career with the Lion Oil Corporation, she became a stay at home mother caring for her family. Shirley enjoyed reading, tending her rose garden and African violets, and needlework. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in El Dorado until she moved to Tyler TX.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Sidney Curtis Sewell and Loyce Clements Sewell, and her husband Ralph A. “Rusty” Dumas.
Survivors are a son David Dumas (Donni) of West Monroe, LA; daughters Dana Sankary (Richard) of Orinda, CA and Denise Robertson (Steve) of Frankston, TX; and grandchildren Michael Dumas, Matthew Dumas (Angela), Kendl Sankary Freiling (Peter), Lauren Sankary and Kailey Robertson; and great grandson Logan Dumas.
Graveside services by Youngs Funeral Directors will be at Fredonia Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 9, 2016 with Rev. Winston Roden officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to Fredonia Cemetery Fund, 3514 West Hillsboro, El Dorado, AR.
