Milferd W. Stewart, 96 of Searcy passed away December 1, 2017 at his home. He was born July 6, 1921 at Higginson, Arkansas. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with many stories about his adventures. He loved being outside working in his garden or just riding his lawnmower. He enjoyed family get together no matter the occasions.
He was born to the late William Taylor(Bid) Stewart and Myrtle Elizabeth (Newton) Stewart.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde Paul Stewart, sister, Mary Elizabeth Hogan, wife, Virgie Lee (Redmon) Stewart and his son, David W. Stewart.
He graduated from Searcy High School in 1939 and also attended Draughon Business School. Milferd was in the Military Service (Army/Air Force) during World War II working on crippled planes as they would come in stationed at Pearl Harbor and Alaska. He married Virgie in 1944, they enjoyed being together and raising their family and grandchildren.
He worked for the Arkansas Power and Light (Entergy) from 1947 until 1957. He also worked with the Postal Service from 1957 until1981 as a letter carrier.
Milferd and Virgie retired to their farm in 1971. They enjoyed country life. He missed his sweet dog and companion Sarah. Milferd was a member of Harmony Methodist Church. He enjoyed and loved his church family.
He is survived by a daughter Shirley Ann Johnston(Gary) of Romance, daughter-in-law, Faye Cooper Stewart of Searcy, four grandchildren, Melissa Allison of Maumelle, Leslee McCoy of Fulton, Missouri, Stacey Stewart of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Taylor Stewart of Searcy, five great grandchildren, Collin, Sydney, Caden, Drennen and Kaylee, as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, with Funeral Services beginning at 2:00 PM at Roller-Daniel Funeral Home, Searcy. Interment will follow at Ellis Chapel Church Cemetery in Higginson/Walker, Arkansas.
