Marcus LeRoy Evans, 78, of 512 E. Eighth St., Smackover, died Tuesday morning in a local nursing home. Born August 11, 1893 in Luverne, Ala., he was the son of Richard and Molly Rose Evans. He was a retired oilfield gauger and a former employe of the City Service Oil Co. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smackover and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Welch Evans of Smackover; a son, W. E. Evans of Houston, Tex.; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry Davis of Houston, and Mrs. Max Shores of Columbia, La; a brother. Lonnie Evans of Luverne; a sister, Mrs. W. W. Willamson of LaPaine, Ala., and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Young's. (El Dorado Times - September 14, 1971)
