BATES, Henry C. - Henry Bates, father of John Windsor Bates of Springfield, was buried by the side of his wife in the City cemetery last Thursday, March 28th following funeral services which were held in the M.E. Church. South, conducted by Rev. R.S. Hayden. Mr. Bates was about 84 years of age. He had lived here for nearly 30 years, coming here from Coles Co., Ind., and was well known to Bentonville folks. His wife died about six years ago. With his son he moved to Springfield three years ago.

Henry C. Bates, 84 years old, pioneer educator who moved to Bentonville from Coles county, Indiana 40 years ago, died Tuesday at the home of his son, John Windsor Bates, at Springfield, Missouri after a brief illness. The body was brought to Bentonville for burial Thursday afternoon.
