Allen W. Bates died at his home eight miles northwest of Bentonville last Saturday afternoon. Mr. Bates was a member of one of the county's pioneer families and was born May 20, 1874, the son of Berry Bates and Eliza Pendergrass Bates. He spent his entire life on the family homestead where he was born.

He is survived by his wife; his mother, Mrs. Eliza bates of Bentonville, a daughter, Mrs. Anna Nichols of Bentonville and by four sons, Berry Bates of Centerton, Perry Bates of Bentonville, George Bates of Wewoica, Okla., and Henry Bates of Fruitland, Idaho. He is also survived by three brothers, George W., John C.,and C.B. Bates of Bentonville and by four sisters, Mrs. Katie Simms of Rosenburg, Tex., and Mrs. Virginia Bates, Miss Margie Bates and Mrs. Homer Jameson of Bentonville.
