A 47-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing his mom was arrested in Guy on Monday.

The Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call around 2:30 p.m. at 55 New Home Road in Guy, where 71-year-old Janette Bivens was found dead in the yard, Chief Deputy Matt Rice said.

Her son, Douglas Bivens, 47, was also in the yard holding a gun.

Rice said FCSO found Douglas’ father, 73-year-old Don Bivens injured inside the home.

“When deputies went inside the residence to clear the home, a second victim [Don] was found shot in the arm and taken to Conway Regional Medical Center,” Rice said.

Rice said Don’s injuries were not life threatening.

Douglas was taken to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning and two children at the home were put in the family’s custody, Rice said.

“At this point we’re still working the scene,” Rice told the Log Cabin Democrat on scene Monday. “That’s all we can release at this point as this case is still under investigation.”

Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland, Sheriff Tim Ryals and Rice were each on scene Monday.
