Jesse Levi Akin, born January 17, 1811, was killed December 5, 1865, by bushwhackers and became the first person buried in the Floyd Cemetery. [White County Heritage 1976, p. 29.] His grave had been unmarked, but was marked with a double stone when Blair did his 2001 report. Shelly Keech reported seeing numerous unmarked graves during the 2000 survey. Also, she noted, "The area adjoining the cemetery was the Floyd ball park at one time and the building beside the cemetery is the old cafeteria from the past Floyd School District."
