ROGERS — Velma L. Ash, 94, died Jan. 12 in Rogers. She was born on Feb. 11, 1918, to the late Hugh and Izora (Freeman) Davis in Manila, Ark. She was the loving wife of 74 years to the late William Alfred Ash.

Velma was the oldest and longest living member of the Monte Ne Baptist Church. She loved to paint, crochet, fish and cook. She was a beautician and owned her own beauty shop that was attached to her home on Monte Ne Road for many years. Velma loved going to church, and has dearly touched the lives of many, as a witness for God.

She is survived by her son, Bill Ash and wife., Doris, of Rogers; three sisters, Betty Felts of Rogers, Martha McGinnis of Springdale and Leoda Beard of Lowell; grandson, Gary Ash and wife, Allene, four great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her grandchildren, Jimmy D. Ash and Donna Lynn Ash; sister, Bessie Pate; and brothers, Charles Davis and James Davis.

Funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Monte Ne Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Oakley Chapel Cemetery. Her visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home.
