Services for Salesvilel Fire Department founder and former Alderman Joe Dean Parnell will be at 2PM today at the Galatia Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Jack Langston officiating. Mr. Parnell died Friday (March 5, 1999) at Baxter County Regional Hospital. He was 59.
Mr. Parnell was born June 19, 1939, at Norfork, a son of Joseph Delmar and Theola Kay Casey Parnell. He married the former Lena Pearl Teegarden Aug 12, 1960, at Norfork. He was a construction foreman and lifetime resident of the area. He was a Baptist.
He was a former Norfork fire chief, former Salesville alderman, former Salesville fire chief for 13 years, EMT for Salesville Fire Department, and founder of the Salesville Fire Department. He received the Volunteer of the Year Award.
He is survived by his wife, Lena P. Parnell of Salesville; one son Mark Parnell of Salesville; one daughter, Stacy May and husband, Ronnie, of Norfork; three grandsons, Joseph Parnell of Broken Arrow, OK and Jacob and James May of Norfork; three brothers, Sylvester Parnell, Everett Parnell and Jerry Parnell, all of Norfork; and one sister, Maxine Langston of Tuckerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Chantal Star and one sister.
Burial will be in Galatia Cemetery at Norfork. Pallbearers are Sylvester Parnell, Everett Parnell, Jerry Parnell, Joseph Parnell, Timothy Parnell and Ronnnie Langston. Honorary pallbearers are Cecils Thompson, Bill Jacobs, Chad Parnell, Willis Teegarden and Gary Foster.
Arrangements are by Kirby-Conner-Boaz Funeral Directors. Kirby-Conner-Boaz, Batesville Casket Company and the US Forest Service have provided for the planting of a tree as a living memoral and tribute to Mr. Parnell.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
